I chose a career in gastroenterology in part because of some early exposure to the field. Growing up, we had a family friend who was a gastroenterologist, and through him I was able to observe firsthand what the profession entailed. The thing that impressed me the most was seeing how cutting edge technology was evolving and how minimally invasive procedures were changing medicine. I knew I wanted to be a part of that.
