About Us

• The South Deerfield Veterinary Clinic established in 1973 with the intent of providing quality veterinary care for both small and large animals in the western Massachusetts area in a clean, caring, friendly, and home like environment. We have modern diagnostic equipment and work closely with state of the art referral clinics and hospitals to provide the best care available for both small and large animals. Dr. Schmitt graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He served a tour of duty in the US Navy. Upon graduation from veterinary college, an internship was spent prior to establishing the South Deerfield Veterinary Clinic. He and his family have lived in South Deerfield since his establishment of the current practice. Dr. Schmitts maintains enthusiasm for the life of a country veterinarian with his involvement with horseback riding, several dogs, cats, and chickens. His wife, children, and grandchildren all affirm their love for their pets. Dr. Burand is a graduate of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her interest is in small animal medicine and surgery. She has been an associate at the South Deerfield Veterinary Clinic since 1987.
