Let yourself be tempted by the warmth and natural beauty of hardwood. Solid or engineered ? Seacoast Flooring offers a variety of choices in species, width, gloss level, grade and stain color for a beautiful, durable floor that will last for years to come. Choose solid hardwood for above-grade installations and engineered for ground level or below grade installations. Cork: Cork flooring is an eco-friendly, replenish-able floor product extracted from the bark of the cork tree. The bark is trimmed once every 10 years from the tree, giving the tree many years to recover and grow new bark. Cork is moisture resistant, insect resistant and naturally anti-microbial. It is a natural acoustic insulator, thermal insulator and fire inhibitor. Many people think of cork as a relatively new and possibly unreliable option particularly as a surface flooring material. And yet, there are examples of Natural Cork floors in public buildings that were installed over 100-years ago and are still in use today. The Library of Congress in Washington, DC is one excellent case. Bamboo: Bamboo is proving to be a durable and attractive alternative to hardwoods for flooring. It is rapidly renewable, growing to maturity in five to seven years, compared to 50-150 years for many hardwoods. It is sturdy, with a hardness that rivals and in some cases exceeds the hardness of hardwoods. Bamboo is attractive and readily available in solid or woven. It offers a variety of colors and grains and it is cost effective, often being less expensive than hardwoods and just as easy to install. To produce strand woven bamboo, timber Bamboo is shredded into fibers, which are then mixed with resin and compressed into solid blocks that are then cut into planks to be milled to a standard flooring profile.
