About Us

  • Dr. Mark Kavanagh is a partner at Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Center in Lincoln Park, NJ. He is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine. Dr. Kavanagh provides care for both pediatric and adult patients. The goal of his practice is to provide his patients with the best physician/patient experience they can have as they recover from their injuries. Dr. Kavanagh provides care for all aspects of orthopedic problems. He specializes in sports-related injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, foot, and ankle. Dr. Kavanagh also practices general orthopedics and treats a variety of common orthopedic injuries such as fractures, sprains, strains and neck and back pain. His expertise includes nonoperative and operative (open & arthroscopic) treatment, surgery of the meniscus, rotator cuff, labrum as well as ligament & tendon repair/reconstruction of the knee and shoulder. Dr. Kavanagh is a native of Mahwah, N.J and a graduate of Mahwah High School. He graduated cum laude from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Kavanagh completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, in Newark, N.J (now Rutgers New Jersey Medical School). During his residency, Dr. Kavanagh received a wide range of orthopaedic training, particularly in orthopaedic trauma surgery at University Hospital in Newark, which is a Level 1 trauma center. While at UMDNJ, he also pursued sub-specialty education in sports medicine. After residency, Dr. Kavanagh took his subspecialty interest in the treatment of sports-related injuries and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Kaiser Permanente, in Irvine, California. While at Kaiser, he assisted in the game, office and surgical care and treatment of athletes at Chapman University, Santa Ana College, and Godinez High School and provided coverage for their football teams. Before returning to his home state, Dr. Kavanagh practiced in Colonial Heights, Virginia and was affiliated with Southside Medical Center. While at Southside, he was the team physician for the Petersburg High School football team. In New Jersey, he provides coverage for the Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills High school football teams. Dr. Kavanagh currently lives in Morris County, New Jersey with his wife, Lauren, their two children, and their dog, Daisy. He enjoys gardening, skiing, and fishing in his spare time.
