About Us

  • Dr. Jakub Tatka is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in complex adult hip and knee reconstruction and hip preservation. His practice is focused on operative and non-operative management of athletic, arthritic, post-traumatic and developmental disorders of the pelvis, hip and knee. Dr. Tatka's practice emphasizes carefully tailored treatments for each of his patients, utilizing precise and minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce pain and restore function. He also has a particular interest hip preservation, leveraging special surgical techniques to treat a variety of congenital and acquired disorders of the hip in order to preserve healthy joint surfaces so his patients can return to their favorite sports and other activities. Some of these surgeries include pelvic ostetomies, such as PAO, and surgical hip dislocation to address complex labral and femoroacetabular injuries and deformities. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Music and Technology from Connecticut College, Dr. Tatka attended medical school at Stony Brook University where he went on to complete his internship and residency training on orthopedic surgery. Dr. Tatka then completed the Joel Matta fellowship in Pelvis, Hip, and Knee Reconstruction and Preservation at the Steadman Clinic in Vail Colorado where he focused on the Anterior Approach hip replacement (primary and revision), pelvic osteotomy and knee replacement surgery. After working with Joel Matta, he trained at Bernese Hip Preservation Fellowship at Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland with the pioneers of hip preservation surgery. Dr. Tatka's academic and research interests are focused on improving diagnosis and treatment of hip disorders, such as femoroacetabular impingement, and on improving the understanding and precision of accurate implantation of hip replacement parts. As one of the traveling physicians for the US Ski Team, Dr. Tatka has participated in training events, races and Olympic trials all over the world. Dr. Tatka's education interests include teaching surgeons in the USA and internationally about the Anterior Approach Hip Replacement technique, and ongoing contributions to online educational resources for medical students and orthopedic residents, fellows, and practicing surgeons. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife, Francesca Ortenzio, who is a Dermatologist practicing in Manhattan, as well as cycling, skiing and playing guitar.
