  • About Us Ellen Wolchek has been an Energy/Transactional attorney for roughly 20 years. She is a member both of the New York Bar and of the Law Society of England and Wales. Her practice includes bankruptcy/insolvency, workouts, debt restructuring, reorganizations, project development and financing, and the sale/purchase of distressed assets in the energy sector. She was previously a partner in the Energy Group at Troutman Sanders LLP in the firm’s New York office and a Senior Counsel in the Energy Group at Foley & Lardner LLP, also in New York. Most recently she was Lead Counsel (Energy and Infrastructure) for the Netherlands Development Finance Company, where she led major power and infrastructure development projects across Africa, Asia and Latin America. Early in her career she worked in Russia and also parts of Central Asia, where she advised on foreign investment projects in the natural resources sector.

    Ellen Wolchek earned her law degree at Cambridge University and subsequently earned an LL.M at New York University School of Law. She also holds a B.A. in French from Mount Holyoke College. Ellen frequently presents on topics in project finance, particularly in the development finance community, regularly offering educational seminars to emerging markets professionals. Her clients have included project sponsors/developers, financing parties, investors, governments and individual entrepeneurs. In addition to English, she speaks fluent French and Russian.

    Ellen Wolchek is an avid equestrian and spends much of her spare time riding. She is also active in animal causes, particularly Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation which she co-founded in New York City. Her U.S. base is in Millbrook, NY, where she is currently restoring a farmhouse. She divides the rest of her time between the Netherlands and London, where she also lives and works.
